Here is the content for Week 2 of our course.

Week 2, Lesson 1

In today’s class, we started by talking about the following discussion prompt:Please discuss three topics you DON’T want to write about for this class, and why you don’t want to write about them. Then I dug into the basics of writing.

  • I discussed the concept of Writing as Conversation (and how this can help you Brainstorm better).
  • I talked the necessity of considering your audience.
  • I discussed the rules of formatting for Academic English-styled writing.
  • I showed you around the LMS and introduced the Paragraph Blog.

For anyone who missed class, there are videos covering the most important of these issues at the bottom of this page.

Week 2, Day 2

For Day 2 of Week 2, we’re starting with our small-group meetings.

Textbook Video Stream

Next, there’s a link below to the this week’s Textbook Videos folder, which contains only the one relatively short video and some (optional) textbook work:

Textbook Homework

Most of the material in Unit 1 is review material of very basic things you are expected to know from high school (if not earlier). For any points you feel uncomfortable or want to review, find the related content in Unit 1 and complete the Activities related to that homework. Work in Unit 1 is optional, but recommended if there is anything you don’t feel confident about knowing well.

This will cover the materials in Unit 1, which should be review for most of you. It’s basically telling you what this class (and our textbook) expects you to already know. If there’s anything unfamiliar or difficult, try doing the book exercise to refresh your memory. There are always textbook exercises outlined in the Textbook Homework section of each week’s folder. Even if you skip the videos, do the textbook work, as it prepares you for the exams.

Paragraph Blog Homework

For this week’s Paragraph Blog, write a Sample Paragraph on one of the topics we chose during Lesson 2 of Week 1.

Optional Non-Textbook Video

The video below is just for people who missed class and need some information about the formatting rules we’ll be using in our class. Check out the video below:

I have not yet created supplementary videos on LearningX and the Paragraph Blog as it will be hosted on the LMS, so you’ll need to check in with a classmate for more information about that. (I’ll add a video when I get around to making one, but LearningX is new enough I haven’t had a chance to make one yet.)
