In Week 7, our focus is tying up any loose ends that remain before your Midterm Exam.

Week 7, Lesson 1

For Week 7, Lesson 1, I’m leaving some time free for answering any questions students wanted to ask.

However, we also worked individually, and then in groups to compare notes, on an Editing Exercise. (A copy of the handout is below, in case you missed class and would like to try editing a problematic text.)

I talked a little bit about the editing process, and gave you some tips for high-pressure editing situations (like on a live exam).

Handouts for Lesson 1

Week 7, Lesson 2

For our small group meetings this week, we’ll be holding Participation Self-Assessment meetings. Please make sure to fill out the handout linked below before our group’s meeting on Lesson 2. (There will not be time to fill it out during our small group meeting.)

Textbook Videos and Exercises for Week 7

There are no textbook-related videos or exercises in the textbook for Week 7!

Paragraph Blog for Week 7

You need to post a Paragraph Blog for this week, and it’s a great opportunity to practice the writing process you’re expected to demonstrate on the upcoming Midterm Exam. For this week, choose something “boring” that you can see wherever you’re reading this. If you’re in your bedroom, maybe choose your bookshelf, or a book on the bookshelf, or choose some other item in your room. If you’re in a coffeeshop, choose some item you can see, and so on.

Use the entire writing process we’ve studied, including the several steps involved in BrainstormingTemplate Sentence Extraction (from any source), Paragraph Skeleton building, and then writing and editing) to write an interesting paragraph about this “boring” item.

Post the paragraph in the body of your Paragraph Blog post for this week. Attach a copy of the entire writing process.

Non-Textbook Materials for Week 7

Unlike in most weeks, the Week 7 Non-Textbook Video is for Lesson 2 of Week 7, and is required viewing.

The video below walks you through the exam process, clarifying what you need to do to create an acceptable exam video as well as showing you the process for completing the exam. It is ~27 minutes long.
