For Week 15, we’re meeting in two-on-one meetings for your second and final Participation Self-Assessment. Please find below the link for the handout to the Participation Self-Assessment Document that you should print and fill out before you come to your meeting.
There is a schedule posted on the LMS for our class.
Please arrive a few minutes early for your meeting, and make sure your self-assessment document is completely filled out. You should be ready to discuss your in-class participation with me and your partner during the meeting.
This will also be your final chance to ask me any questions you have about the Final Exam or anything we’ve studied this semester. I will answer your questions as best I can, time permitting.
Non-Textbook Videos
I have two non-textbook videos for you to check out this week: one is about Staying in Practice (so you don’t forget everything you’ve learned before moving on to Global English IV), and one is about Tips on Exam Preparation.
Practice Paragraph
I strongly recommend you practice the paragraph writing process we’ve studied in this class, since I expect you to complete a written paragraph using that same process for the Final Exam. The topic will be a surprise, so writing about a random topic is a good idea, too.
Exam Preparation Tips
As I said in class, you know the process we’ve studied for writing paragraphs, and you know that I will be testing you on this process. Therefore, it’s a good idea to practice the process.
If you want even more review materials, I’d check out the review materials included in the back pages of your textbook.
Finally, I have three more suggestions:
- Go back and read my written feedback on your Midterm Exam (in the My Grades page). Take note of weak points and remember to check your final paragraph on the Final Exam to make sure those weak points or problems don’t recur. My feedback on your other homework would also be helpful.
- Go back and read what you wrote for this class at the beginning of semester, such as your first few Practice Paragraphs. Check for any problems of the kinds we’ve studied or discussed this semester, in terms of grammar, structure, style, clarity, or interest, and edit the paragraphs to get some practice rewriting your own work from a distance.
- Pick one paragraph from your Practice Paragraphs and edit it, fixing all the problems you find and improving the paragraph in all the ways you can. This should help you get comfortable spotting similar problems in your own work during the Final Exam.
If you do all of that, you should definitely be ready for the Final Exam.
